A consultative meeting held to discuss the consolidated checklist of standards for inpatient mental health and drug rehabilitation

The Chief Executive Officer of IHRA conducted a consultative meeting and training session to discuss the consolidated checklist of standards for inpatient mental health and drug rehabilitation facilities in ICT. Facilitators included an IHRA field officer, a renowned psychiatrist from the Health Services Academy (HSA), and experts from the TASKEEN group. Representatives from various rehab centers attended the training in two groups over two days. The sessions enhanced understanding of the checklist, discussed implementation challenges, field hardships and shared compliance strategies. The training aimed to improve care quality and standards in mental health and drug rehabilitation facilities, successfully promoting the adoption of IHRA’s standards.

Accrediting the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories

IHRA has initiated the process of accrediting the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories (CCL) in Islamabad. In this regard, the IHRA team visited Max Health Hospital G-8 Markaz, to inspect it according to CCL Standards, which are based on the best practices guidelines of 2017.
Moreover, IHRA advises all CCLs to ensure the practice of CCL guidelines and standards.

A consultative meeting was held in Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority (IHRA) secretariat to develop consensus on development of Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) and Infectious Diseases (ID) standards in Pakistan.
The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (M/o NHSR&C) in collaboration with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and JSI engaged CEOs of all the Provincial Healthcare Commissions and IHRA, and was also participated by partner organizations (WHO, JSI, Contech International, Jhpiego, UKHSA) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) to deliberate and finalize these standards and build consensus for their uniform implementation across the country.
During the consultative meeting held at the IHRA secretariat, standards from WHO, NIH, PHC, SHCC, KPHCC, and IHRA were thoroughly examined and compared.  The primary objective of this session was to draft a uniform document intended for nationwide application, without being restricted by regional boundaries. The ultimate objective is to implement the finalized document across the entire country.
IHRA sincerely appreciate and is thankful for continued collaboration and support from all the participants in standardization and advancing healthcare quality and safety in Pakistan.

IHRA has initiated the process of Licensing the Dental Healthcare Establishment in Islamabad

Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority (IHRA) has initiated the process of Licensing the Dental Healthcare Establishment in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
In this regard, the IHRA team visited Islamabad International Dental Hospital,  Islamabad, to inspect it as per the IHRA Dental Standards and Checklist.

IHRA sealed seven healthcare establishments over different malpractices

ISLAMABAD: In the last one-month Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority (IHRA) has conducted a total of 112 inspections in Islamabad. Due to grave irregularities found in the functioning of certain healthcare establishments the Authority sealed seven Healthcare Establishments (HCEs) in different areas of ICT.

Those that were sealed consist of Rawat Clinic, VIP Clinic, Medsol collection point, Family Hospital, Yousafzai Medical Center, Muqdas Dental Clinic (Saleem Dental Care), Rasheed Hospital. They were sealed for different offenses including not getting registration with IHRA, unhygienic conditions, absence of proper waste management system, illegally broking official seal, functional during suspension and unqualified staff rendering medical services.

Similarly, IHRA suspended the services of four Healthcare Establishments (HCEs) over different medical noncompliance. These were Yasmeen Family Clinic Rawat, Islamabad Medicare Labs and Specialist Clinics, Fatima Dental Care, Gulf Addiction Treatment Center & Psychiatric Care.

78 Healthcare Establishments were served notices for minor non-compliances and instructed to comply with the directions given by the inspections team. 16 HCEs were found closed during inspections carried out by inspection teams. 07 Healthcare Establishments (HCEs) were recommended for registration and revocation of suspension.

IHRA inspection teams also conducted inspections of blood banks to see their functioning as per the standards of blood banking. Those that were inspected included Medicsi Bahria Town,

Blood Bank Services, Al Nafees Hospital, Ahmed Blood Bank. Directives were issued to all regarding the findings and areas of improvement.

Due to grave irregularities found in the functioning of certain healthcare establishments the Authority sealed eleven Healthcare Establishments (HCEs) in different areas of ICT.

Those that were sealed consist of Grow Hair Transplant, Samad Clinic, Shakeel Clinic, Al Falah Clinic, Kashif Pharmacy & Clinic, Molecular Lab, Abrash Clinic, My Health Clinic, Yousaf Zai Medical Center, Naveed Medical Center, Sohail Clinic. They were sealed for different offenses including not getting registration with IHRA, unhygienic conditions, absence of proper waste management system, illegally breaking the official seal, functional during suspension and unqualified staff rendering medical services.

Similarly, IHRA suspended the services of five Healthcare Establishments (HCEs) over different medical noncompliance. These were Reliance Hospital, North West Dental Clinic, Grow Hair Transplant & Aesthetic Clinic, Rehman Free Dialysis, The Specialist Care Clinic.

35 Healthcare Establishments were served notices for minor non-compliances and instructed to comply with the directions given by the inspections team. 29 HCEs were found closed during inspections carried out by inspection teams. 12 Healthcare Establishments (HCEs) were recommended for registration and revocation of suspension.

IHRA inspection teams also conducted inspection of public & private blood banks to see their functioning as per the standards of blood banking. Those that were inspected included PIMS,

Regional Blood Center, Federal General Hospital, FG Polyclinic Hospital, CDA Hospital, Maryam Memorial Hospital, Medicsi, Shifa International Hospital. Directives were issued to all regarding the findings and areas of improvement.

 IHRA aims to promote the highest standard of healthcare & safety protocols to be implemented in these health establishments.

Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority has organized a one-day workshop/training session on “Safety of High Alert Medicines” based on guidelines notified by DRAP-Pakistan, in collaboration with Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad. The Healthcare professionals (Doctors, Pharmacists, Nurses and Para-medical staff) from Hospital in Islamabad attended the said training.
The purpose is that the Healthcare Providers and Organization understand the safety requirements, develop a hospital-based policy on safe handling and use of High Alert Medicines and implement the best practices, so that patient harm can be prevented.
IHRA will continue such training in future. We will ensure that the hospitals trained establish a high alert medication system in their hospitals. This will reduce chances of medical errors in future.
